University of Porto
ABOUT
University of Porto (UPORTO) is a prestigious European Higher Education Institution in Portugal, with more than 35 000 students. As a new partner in TAILWIND, the team brings together two research groups from the Civil and Georesources Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto – Geotechnical and Hydraulics – whose complementary expertise is essential for the envisaged objectives. The aim is to advance the existing knowledge on the design of station-keeping systems for floating wind energy on the Atlantic coast, making it publicly available to accelerate deployment. At present, only pilot projects have been implemented off the Portuguese coast, as large-scale infrastructures remain cost-prohibitive. Leading Work Package 8, UPorto will investigate station-keeping technologies adapted to the specific challenges of the Portuguese Atlantic coast. The scope includes expanding TAILWIND’s methodology to incorporate soil behaviour under complex stress paths, scour effects, and reliability studies.
