UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON

ABOUT

The University of Southampton (UoS) is a leading institution in offshore geotechnics, with key expertise in the physical and numerical modelling of anchors for floating offshore renewable energy devices, and a strong track record of developing innovative design methods. The University hosts the Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies for Intelligent & Resilient Ocean Engineering, the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute, and world-class facilities, including a 6m geotechnical beam centrifuge hosted in the National Infrastructure Laboratory. The main task of the UoS will be the geotechnical modelling of small-scale anchors (WP3), to unlock higher anchor performance through whole-life design and to advance novel anchor technologies. The UoS also leads WP4 – System-wide technology impact, and will develop a simple anchor numerical model that can be combined with hydrodynamic simulations, enabling a holistic mooring system approach.
